3. New Heists

Heists were by far the most substantial update GTA Online has ever received. Dropping over a year after the sequel launched, the new mode introduced the easiest way to make in-game cash, and instantly became a hit with fans. Unfortunately, once they came out, Rockstar showed no interest in working on any more.

But then they dropped The Doomsday Heist out of nowhere in 2017. After years of not talking about the mode at all, this random update seemingly indicated that the developers weren't finished with this part of the game yet, and will hopefully have a few more surprises up their sleeves ready to be revealed over the next 12 months.

At this point in its lifecycle, GTA Online can only start to wane. However, if Rockstar are re-committed to working on new heists, that could potentially expand Online going into the next few years, and make up for the lack of any true single player expansions.
