Hades: 10 Reasons You MUST Play Supergiant's New Rogue-Like

1. The Characters

Supergiant Games

Much of this game's strength lies in its nuanced characterisation and relationships, with each character, from god to mythical figure to literal rock, memorable in both design and personality.

This was achieved in no small part thanks to the fantastic writing, voice acting, and bombastic, yet subtle design choices put into each character, with art ranging from cute to beyond sexy, without ever sacrificing uniqueness and appeal.

Some standouts include the nymph Eurydice and her beautiful, bright tree-like design, or the mysterious boatman Charon with his wide-brimmed hat and body positively dripping with gold. Some designs even clue into certain mysteries presented near the beginning, such as Patroclus's familiar colour scheme, Zagreus' autumn laurels, and hints about Skelly's mysterious employer.

Each character has interesting motives and personalities as well, and the relationships feel as human as they do mythological, with a protagonist that hates nobody despite being killed over and over, and has an undeniable love for others and (ironically) for life that permeates throughout every interaction.

The characters and their stories keep the player coming back, with content that rivals even the largest RPGs, and is one of the reasons this game tops the genre (or genres) it operates in.
