One reviewer once said that you "shouldn't play Hades if you don't want to spend the rest of your life playing Hades", which is accurate given how addictive and enjoyable the gameplay really is. So satisfying that this article probably would have been finished days ago if the writer wasn't busy playing Hades.

A lot goes on behind the scenes to make gameplay rewarding, from the animation to the sound effects to the randomisation to the distinct difference in power whenever boons or customizations are added as the player goes along.

Though you can't 100% control what boons or rewards you get in every run, you can shuffle odds in your favour enough that being able to put together exceptionally good builds makes you feel a sense of accomplishment - such as the player who built a successful "AFK" build that let him kill the (spoiler) final boss without fighting back.

Hades is difficult, but in a way where it keeps players coming back for more. It makes failure almost as enjoyable as winning, with both rewarded by some form of progression. Very few games manage to balance replayability with punishing yet rewarding learning curves, and Hades manages it fantastically well.
