HBO's The Last Of Us: 9 Scenes We Want To See

5. Joel / Tommy's Argument

When Joel and Tommy are reunited in The Last of Us, it's after several years apart due to a major falling out the duo had over their days as Hunters - a period that appears to have been spearheaded more so by Joel than Tommy.

The argument is only very briefly mentioned in the game when Joel tells Ellie that the last thing Tommy said to him was, "I don't ever want to see your goddamned face again."

We know that during the early days of the outbreak, Joel was happy to kill and maim in order to survive. Tommy on the other hand? Not so much.

Eventually, Tommy decided to leave his brother's dark and immoral ways behind - choosing to join the fireflies. It was this difference of opinion that caused the argument and set the brothers on their separate paths.

This flashback could easily be incorporated by The Last of Us' writers but more importantly, it feels like a key moment to include. The very point of the narrative is that the Cordyceps virus has created an environment that draws out the worst in humanity - something that is true for Infected and humans alike.

Tommy seems to be the key component in exposing Joel's dark past, and this scene is key to exploring Joel's character.
