7. The Cutscenes Are Incredibly Detailed
Cutscenes are plentiful, and absolutely gorgeous, almost indistinguishable from their animated film counterparts. The facial rigs are very complex and allow for a wide range of emotions to be perfectly shown on the characters faces, it’s a huge step up graphically from anything we’ve ever seen in the series so far. Pixar literally gave Square Enix their models to use for the cutscenes.
We heard from Pixar's Jason Katz and Tasha Sounart, who talked about how closely their team have been working with Square Enix to ensure that the standard that goes into the character art, animation, environmental design and original storylines are of the highest quality.
A lighting team is something the Kingdom Hearts team never previously had, but now they have one for 3 so that each character looks perfect for all the HD cutscenes. Even down to the tiniest scratches on Rex’s teeth, we know and recognise these characters as being from our beloved animated films.
