Madden NFL 22 Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

2. Franchise Stories Need A Patch Or Two

We'll get to Franchise Mode improvements shortly - yes, they do exist.

This is admittedly something that EA can patch over the next few months too, so it's not the biggest complaint about this year's Madden. However, it does shatter any sense of immersion when your NFL coach gets asked to comment on things that never actually happened. Hmm.

FIFA's Career Mode faithful will recognise this gripe. There, it's not uncommon to be asked what you and your team will do now the league season is over...three games into the campaign. Madden's odd scripting isn't quite as egregious than that, but it does take one out of the moment when media-based cutscenes don't echo what's going on.

One of the most frequent bugs comes when you're about to play in wintery conditions. The press might ask you how the team will deal with that, which is great. Then, you get to game day and the sun is shining. It's all rather jarring.
