Madden NFL 22 Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

1. It’s Not The Next-Gen Leap

There was a time when new hardware meant gamers could look forward to a significant jump up in terms of presentation and/or quality. Those days, rather sadly, appear to be gone. Madden 22 on PS5/Xbox Series X/S is the same core experience available on older systems only with a few new bells and whistles.

That won't be enough for some.

Is the pre-game presentation better on newer consoles? Yes, but only slightly. Player physics are improved too, albeit not to the level most Madden veterans demanded before launch. Various bugs and glitches still rear their ugly heads on the field, and characters do clip through one another (less so than before though).

To summarise, this year's Madden feels like another soft enhancement rather than a revolution for the series. It's a better game than Madden 21 was, no doubt, but the refinements EA have been shouting about might not convince those who crave something totally fresh.
