Madden NFL 22 Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs
Ups...
4. The Yard Has Its Own Campaign
Suggestion: Madden fans should grab some friends, perhaps a few beverages and give The Yard a whirl. Do so and you just might be charmed by the arcade mayhem on tap. This year, EA has added a story mode into their backyard-style football spin off too, so there's even something for single players.
It's short at just four chapters, but the story is a nice tour of everything The Yard has to offer. Besides, painting top-tier players like Patrick Mahomes as "final bosses" with their own unique capabilities is a neat touch, and it gives the mode some unexpected challenge once you're finished f*cking around with mates.
The sign of a good mode is one that brings people back for more. The Yard is best-sampled in bite-sized chunks, and with buddies before/after the credits roll on the story side quests. It does feel, however, like EA is starting to get more of a feel for what this arcade frenzy could be.
