Magic: The Gathering: 10 Most Powerful Mono-Blue Cards In 2020 Standard

8. Thassa's Intervention

Thassa Magic
Wizards Of The Coast

Another card from the big blue God of the Sea; Thassa's Intervention fulfills several needs that blue decks have. The more versatile blue cards can be the better off they are. If one of your cards can answer several of your opponent's cards it leaves you in the driver seat to dictate how the match will proceed. Modal cards like Thassa's Intervention let you do that.

For two blue mana plus any amount you'd like to play you get your choice of two affects. The first being you may look at any number of cards on top of your library, as many as you paid for X anyway, choose up to two of them and put those in your hand. The rest go on the bottom of your deck in a random order. The second mode lets you counter a spell unless its controller pays twice as much as you did for X.

Thassa's Intervention sees play in control decks and Temur Reclamation decks where you often have so much mana the first mode can essentially be a tutor affect. If your opponent expends all of their mana for one game winning play Intervention lets you say no. Doing all of the things that a blue card wants to do earns Thassa's Intervention its spot here.
