Magic: The Gathering: 10 Most Powerful Mono-Blue Cards In 2020 Standard
9. Thassa's Oracle
One of the more unique cards to come to standard recently Thassa's Oracle has a short novel of rules text on it, the summary of which will usually say, "you win the game.". Alternative win conditions have been a favourite of deck brewers for years now; Demonic Pact and Triskadekaphobia being recent examples. Thassa's Oracle is another card in that tradition that has carved out its own small niche in the standard meta.
For two blue mana you get a 1/3 Merfolk Wizard that checks for you devotion to blue, the number of blue pips on permanents you control in play, when it enters the battlefield. You then get to do some fiddling about with that number of cards being on the top or bottom of your deck but that isn't the important part. If your devotion to blue is greater than the number of cards in your library you win the game.
Cards that let you win the game on their own are inherently powerful. Other cards are needed to help out; you'll either need to get most of your deck out of the way or have a lot of blue pips on the field. After all of that though it's as simple as Thassa's Oracle, win.
