Magic: The Gathering: 10 Most Powerful One-Mana Creatures In Standard Right Now
5. Pelt Collector
Some time ago, the Evolve mechanic was all of the rage, allowing creatures to gain +1/+1 counters whenever a more powerful or tougher creature entered the battlefield. The unique mechanic of pelt collector however ignores the buff from a tougher creature you’d get with Evolve and instead allows you an extra counter when a creature dies. This means you can potentially get two counters for the price of a single creature.
Because of this, any deck with this card should favour top heavy creatures as their low toughness doesn’t matter because in a way you want those creatures to die. Top heavy creatures also allows for favourable trades, meaning that Pelt Collector is more well protected and can attack more rather than leaving him back to block.
His trample buff when he has 3 or more counters is what makes him peak, as for every powerful creature which enters and dies on your side of the board, you set up for a stronger and stronger game-ending swing.
