Magic: The Gathering: 10 Most Powerful One-Mana Creatures In Standard Right Now

4. Knight Of The Ebon Legion

Any standard player no doubt knows this card and knows it well. Knight of the Ebon Legion is one of the cards on this list which might be better to not be played on turn one. The reason is that by playing him on a turn where you’re guaranteed 4 damage to your opponent, you turn him from a squishy 1/2 into a more survivable 2/3.

What makes Knight of the Ebon Legion so powerful is that, even without other damaging cards, for 3 mana he can activate his own passive ability as long as he hits, and when the temporary buff is so significant as well as the added Deathtouch, the opposing player will be forced to either sacrifice some of their board or deal with an even more powerful creature the following turn.

This card is the only creature you need have in your deck if that’s what you desire, as damage spells can take out your opponent’s board or deal the direct damage required to activate the creature’s ability. This also stacks incredibly well as four of these guys on your board will all benefit from the same damage and get your foe quaking in their boots.
