Magic: The Gathering: 10 Most Powerful Planeswalker Cards

3. Nicol Bolas, The Arisen

Another Nicol Bolas makes its way onto the list at number 5. As he flips from a creature, summoning him is a little more difficult than with the other Planewalkers on this list as getting him out and into Planewalker form in one turn requires a total of 11 mana. You can of course play him as a creature and have him survive until you have the 7 mana to flip him, but with a card so full of impact, having him in creature form for even a single turn is risky.

Despite the difficulty to get this card up and running, it’s certainly worth it as his +2 ability will provide constant card-draw with enough starting loyalty that he won’t be taken out any time soon. Both of his – abilities work together to allow you to destroy your opponent’s most impact-full creature of Planewalker and then take control of it on the following turn.

While both of his middle abilities are great, many players may be tempted to rush towards his -12 ultimate ability, and it’s completely understandable why they’d do that. If you can survive for your opponent’s next turn after you activate this, you almost guarantee a win. Unless your opponent has a way of putting cards back into their deck, which they’d have to do with only the cards in their hand and on the board, you win with a mill victory as they run out of cards.

Nicol Bolas, the Arisen is an incredibly powerful card in all regards, which awards him a bronze medal as he comes it at number 3 on this list.
