2. An In-Depth Universe That You Won't Want To Leave

BioWare

The Mass Effect series has such a deep and intricately-designed universe, so much so that it's difficult to find other game universes that are comparable. There's so much lore and species types to dive into that you could spend hours on end just looking into the game's Codex.

That in-depth history mixed with the variety of locations, personality types, and side stories that are available to you makes it endlessly enjoyable to explore. You never know what kind of scuffle or side mission you may encounter, but what you do know is that it'll be worth the time you spend with it.

As all players of this franchise know too well, it's how ME2 towers over many others in terms of its mythology and art direction. Far too few games are like Mass Effect 2, which makes leaving the Milky Way galaxy all the more difficult to stomach.

Unlike other sci-fi titles where the setting is purely just a backdrop or an eye-catching location, every location in Mass Effect 2 has its own set of stories to tell. Each world, each dirty night club has any number of interesting components that'll keep you coming back to replay through the campaign time and time again.
