The nearest thing we got to piloting the Normandy in the trilogy was across Mass Effect's 2 and 3, but you were resigned to moving what amounted to miniature pieces around a star map, avoiding tiny Reapers (in 3 anyway) on the way to your goal. It was fine enough, but Bioware have been eyeing No Man's Sky's planet-to-planet take off n' land tech, as they've implemented almost the exact same thing. The leak details that upon approaching the Galaxy Map, you'll be transferred across to a first-person view, where you can pilot the Tempest directly. It sounds like the mode starts in first-person and hops out to third, but I'd wager you'll get the choice of the two, and from there you can direct yourself through an on-screen HUD of planet icons and other points of discovery. Lastly, there's mention of hitting a button and engaging the ship's FTL warp drive and burning off through stars, directly to your destination - essentially being a one-button fast-travel.
