7. The Story Is Predictable & Lacks Emotional Impact

"The problem with Andromeda’s story and characters is that the dramatic weight present in the older games just isn’t there for the most part...I just don’t know if Andromeda produces those big 'moments' that you remember from past Mass Effect games. That choice between Kaidan and Ashley in ME1, the final suicide mission in ME2, or the Genophage cure in ME3. I can't really pick out a moment like that here, at least in my playthrough." - Forbes
"The plot is largely predictable in a mindless blockbuster sort of way." - Gamespot
"It feels like those working on the script and story have only just woken up from hypersleep themselves, and dashed out this rushed and worryingly flawed game in a matter of weeks, not years." - Metro

The Mass Effect franchise has done a terrific job in the past of building what feels like a living, breathing universe inhabited with full-bodied characters, but Andromeda? Not so much.

The story is almost universally regarded to be inferior to that of earlier games, following an overly familiar path and failing to earn the portentous weight it attempts to bestow upon the player and protagonist.

This isn't surprising after playing the opening sections of the game, which rush through setting up two big, "emotional" character-driven plot threads without ever actually asking the player to care.
