9. What Is The Andromeda Initiative?

Considering that everyone aboard the ship to Andromeda is likely convinced that there won't be a Milky Way galaxy to go back to, they've obviously got to have a game plan. If Commander Shepard is in charge of saving the galaxy, then the Andromeda team are in charge of finding a back-up plan in case that doesn't work out.

That's where the Andromeda Initiative comes in.

With the Andromeda Initiative, the goal is to find another home for humanity (preferably one that is Reaper-free). With Andromeda being both the nearest galaxy to the Milky Way and completely free of timeless evil forces arriving any time soon, it seems that it's the logical destination for Ryder and company to go.

Traveling alongside 20,000 other passengers in cryo-sleep, the Ark Hyperion ship will be the main home ship utilized by Ryder and the main human forces, while the Nexus will serve as more of the central commercial ship, like the Citadel in the original trilogy.

There are no guarantees that Andromeda will be any safer than the Milky Way, but exploring the unknown is most of the fun in these sci-fi stories, right?
