Speaking of XP, the new system is a living comment on how you had to literally play through the original Mass Effect multiple times, to max out XP and hit the level 60 cap.

Now called "Legendary" scaling, you'll simply earn XP at twice the rate. This not only means you'll unlock the entirety of your ability set on a decent playthrough, but importing your character into Mass Effect 2 comes with a host of easily obtainable bonuses.

The likes of Paragon and Renegade attributes carrying over if you have either meter over halfway full is one thing, but specifically talking levels, you can start Mass Effect 2 with 1000 XP if you reached level 25, 2000 XP if you were between 26 and 29, and 4000 XP if you hit max level before continuing.

Scores of materials also carry across - all things you won't get access to if you don't play the first game.
