Mortal Kombat 1 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
3. Kameos Add Another Layer To Kombat
Kameo fighters are the latest addition to Mortal Kombat 1's gameplay. This mechanic allows a pre-selected teammate to be briefly summoned in battle with the press of a button.
Now, this concept is nothing new to the series, since the previous entry had a similar mechanic called Character Summon Konsumables.
But Kameos don't just pop in to deliver an extra attack. When timed correctly, they can assist in Specials and Kombos, turning a basic move into a devastating assault. Kameos can perform multiple techniques, heavily diversifying their buddy's move-set. They can be called upon more than once during the same move, allowing players to unleash a merciless onslaught on their opponent.
Like MK11, kombatants can perform a Fatal Blow, once their health drops below 30%. But this time around, the Fatal Blow is a collaboration, with the kombatant and Kameo partner attacking their rival in tandem.
With 15 Kameo fighters to select, players can pair them up with any kombatant, until they find certain sets that work well together. With hundreds of combinations to choose from, fans can spends hours playing around with this mechanic, without it becoming tiresome.
