Mortal Kombat 1 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

4. Invasion Is A Lot Of Fun

Alongside the usual Story and Tower Mode, MK1's single player features a new set-up called Invasion. This RPG-styled board game has players take part in battles, puzzles, and Test Your Might challenges to move around the map. (Basically, it's Mario Party, but with way more decapitations.)

Like The Krypt and The Towers of Time from MK11, Invasion is a great way to level up, earn rewards, and receive Koins. Unlike The Krypt and The Towers of Time, Invasion... is fun! Each board varies tremendously in structure, style, and challenges, which keeps the gameplay fresh.

Certain enemies are difficult to defeat unless an appropriate kombatant and Kameo is selected, urging players to rely on strategy and experimentation, rather than entering battle with guns blazing. To give players an edge in battle, be sure to locate, equip, and upgrade the talismans and relics strewn across the arena.

There's a lot to content in Invasion, but players will be compelled to check out all the boards, since they house some of the best cosmetics in the game.

With new boards being introduced every few weeks, players will come back again and again to find new arenas, new challenges, and most importantly, new goodies.
