While Mortal Kombat XI is unlikely to be pseudo-open-world like Deception, it is said to take place over the course of a number of years. The story of Dark Raiden Vs. NetherRealm's greatest warriors will span at least six years and see considerable changes to the status quo. You can never accuse NetherRealm of resting on its laurels.
