Mortal Kombat: EVERY Game Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance

Mortal Kombat was so popular during he 1990s, Street Fighter was considered its only real competition. But after the discouraging reaction to MK3 and MK4 as well as the rising popularity of Tekken and Smash Bros., Midway realised they had to literally up their game to catch up.

For the fifth entry, MK: Deadly Alliance, they gave every character three distinctive fighting styles, one of which included a unique weapon. It also introduced the The Krypt reward system, which was so well-received, it has become a staple in the series since.

Although the game introduced some fan-favourites like Kenshi, Bo Rai Cho, and Frost, most of the new roster are pretty forgettable. In hindsight, the developers should have dropped fighters like Drahmin, Hsu Hao, Mavado, and Nitara and instead, inserted more finishing moves or tighter fighting mechanics. The sub-boss, Moloch, had a surprisingly uncreative design and felt like a step down compared to other epic bosses in the series like Goro and Kintaro.

Also, it was anticlimactic that the entire plot revolved around the Dragon King... and you never even fight him!
