Mortal Kombat: EVERY Game Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Mortal Kombat 3

With Mortal Kombat II improving on every element of the original game, the hype was very real for the follow-up. Sadly, gamers balked the instant they saw the character select screen. Many fan-favourites were absent including Raiden, Baraka, Johnny Cage, and Scorpion. (WHY did the developers think gamers wouldn't want Scorpion?!)

Sadly, some of the new characters weren't great. Stryker feels so out-of-place, it's like he was put in the game by accident. Kabal has an excellent design but his combos were so broken, even Ed Boon told the developers he should've been scaled down. The game did have an onslaught of finishing moves including the brand-new Animalities but the fans were clearly disgruntled.

To make up for it, Ed Boon and John Tobias made an updated version called Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Not only did the game contain nearly every kombatant in the franchise but it had more balanced fighting mechanics, new stages, and a few more new fighters like Rain and Ermac.

But because Boon and Tobias scrambled to make the game, it was very buggy. The music would sometimes become inaudible, all the Animalities were removed, and some of the finishing moves didn't even work!
