Mortal Kombat Movie Reboot: 8 Things We Need To See

5. A Good Mix Of Magical And Physically-Grounded Combat

At its core, Mortal Kombat is all about the brawl. And since its early 90s origins, it has struck a finely visceral balance between fantastical gravity-defying fireball throwing, and blood-letting, bone-breaking violence.

This blend of styles certainly has potential to translate to the new movie. Though, like the characterisation, it's probably a wise idea not to make it too over the top. Nobody should be hopping back to their feet after getting stabbed through the heart with an oscar.

We don't yet know how deeply embedded in the magic and mystical side of things the new movie will be, but hopefully it will exist in confident quantity. However, it shouldn't overshadow the choreography of the hand-to-hand combat, as showing the fights in all of their martial arts glory could also be a great selling point, just so long as the basic principles of physics are adhered to.

Once these rules are followed, the high-flying somersaults and electric hand projectiles will serve as mere sprinkles on top. The right balance will make for some great viewing.
