Teach yourself to defend with both analogue sticks. Although the left stick controls basic movement, the right stick allows for more precise on-ball defense. A simple flick causes your player to quickly shuffle in that direction, keeping his shoulders square to the basket all the while. This should prevent the offensive player from beating you with a simple skill move, although more experienced ball-handlers may be more difficult to contain.
