This is another move made solely for salary reasons. Two new acquisitions by the Lakers will make $136M over the next 4 years! Both are over 30 years old and average at best. Instead, Scola's $5M is just a one-year contract, while Dinwiddie will make just $3M over the next 3 years.

With that much money left, you can sign someone better than Deng and Mozgov in the off-season, while allowing your younger players to gain valuable experience. It's not like you're returning to the playoffs anytime soon.
