New RED DEAD REDEMPTION Free DLC Is Not As Cool As It Sounds
DLC is simply some extra characters and a few extra maps for the open world multiplayer but I suppose it's free so we won't complain much.
When I think about Red Dead Redemption I remember all the hours of riding on horse back, picking flowers for a woman whose been dead for several years and watching as an NPC that I had just completed a mission for get eaten by cougars before she could give me my money and experience. When I think of Red Dead Redemption downloadable content I think about perhaps the single greatest DLC ever created by man. Sure we have seen serious games do zombies before, the most recent example in the new map for COD Black Ops, but none of them can compare to the awesomeness that Rockstar gave us almost a year ago. So when I see that Rockstar are releasing FREE DLC for a game that is in my top ten (alongside L.A Noire) I want to jump for joy. I think what could they possibly do next? They've done zombies and the horses of the apocalypse what else? Have the grim reaper as a playable character? Make vampires terrifying again so that the only time you can rest is during the day? That is right Vampires burst into flame in sunlight, sorry for ruining every twelve year old girls dream. So is it going to be Vampires or Death or perhaps something even cooler? Ummm no. That look on your face now is exactly the way that I looked when I found out that this free DLC is simply some extra characters and a few extra maps for the open world multiplayer. Sure the characters are actually from the game, sure you can play as Vicente DeSanta, Drew MacFarlane, Deputy Eli, Deputy Jonah, Javier Esquella, Nastas and Landon Ricketts but that wasn't what I was expecting. In the free DLC, entitled Myths and Mavericks, there are eleven new locations that allow between one and four game modes each. The Armadillo, Chuparosa, and Tumbleweed maps now support the Stronghold game type and the characters listed earlier are all present. Although my disappointment is high this DLC is still free and means that I will probably get Red Dead down from its pedestal to play through once again. Myths and Mavericks is available on September 13th for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
