Nintendo have garnered a reputation for being somewhat antiquated in their approaches to the constantly evolving games industry. While continuing to innovate their hardware, Nintendo have been wary of the internet, treating it as an afterthought and a burden.

This mistrust of the internet came to full fruition when streaming became the new norm in the games industry. Previously, gaming journalism was a tightly controlled field of people who Nintendo were comfortable doing business with and allowed to review their products. However, with the dawn of mass internet, streaming took over from print and now any fan could hop online and stream footage of the game for anyone to watch.

This was unfathomable to Nintendo who immediately began to scream piracy and attack the streaming community. For some reason, Nintendo could not understand the benefit all this free advertising could have and only saw individuals profiting from their intellectual property.

Nintendo went after YouTube streamers and began to file copyright violations on Let's Plays and even demanded YouTuber's hand over their ad revenue to the multi billion dollar company. This, obviously, did not ingratiate Nintendo with the internet gaming community and proved how short sighted and hostile Nintendo could be as a company, rubbishing their reputation as the golden child of the gaming industry.
