Octopath Traveller: 14 Tips & Tricks The Game Doesn't Tell You
12. How To Trigger - And See All - The Group Chatter
A bone of contention for those wanting Octopath to be just as much a group adventure as the halcyon days of Final Fantasy VI-through-X, Octopath doesn't devote much time to having your characters interact with one another.
... Or does it?
Strangely, party banter is reserved to specific group makeups and it's relegated to the steps of quests themselves. Pretty much every time you're given a new destination marker is classed as a new "step", and you can then trigger group chatter by hitting the + button.
When in this chat-happy part of a quest, each character will have something to say - even those not in your party. You'll need to head over to the Tavern (located in every town) to swap active members around, then go back outside to kickstart another conversation.
Make a point of doing this if you want to hear from a certain character, because once you've completed a chapter there's no way to trigger these conversations again.
