Overwatch: Ranking All Events So Far
2. Halloween Terror
Halloween Terror, like the Halloween season itself, revels in what makes games and worlds like Overwatch so fun. Overwatch formed an entire alternate universe based on a story told by Reinhardt during a Halloween party in Overwatch's better days, casting each character as fantasy versions of themselves that would fit in this universe. Each character has dialogue specific to this world, briefly turning Overwatch into something older and much more magical, a bit like a DnD campaign with existing characters.
It's got all the fun of a particularly outrageous fanfiction working in tandem with the endlessly enjoyable PVE mode, Junkenstein's Revenge. This game mode was so successful that a similar setup was used for the Archives events, and may even be a stepping stone for the story-centric Overwatch 2.
During this time, the skins are nothing to sneeze at either, with Witch Mercy being one of the most iconic skins of all time, and Reaper's Pumpkin Headless Horseman one of the most recognisable images from Overwatch overall. The Halloween themed maps give a fun, spooky new spin to the game as well.
It's one of the best, if not the best event for many players, and deserves recognition.
