After witnessing Nintendo's triumph with the Switch, how could Sony not be at least considering something similar? Considering the near-total abandonment of the Vita since its launch in 2011, it's all too easy to forget that the company is already involved in the handheld market, but would the outcome be different if it integrated such a device with its flagship home console?

Such a question can only be answered in a live environment, but Sony's certainly exploring the possibility of keeping the two together, rather than segregating them as standalone devices, for whatever the future holds.

In my opinion, rather than separating portable gaming from consoles, it’s necessary to continue thinking of it (portable gaming) as one method to deliver more gaming experiences and exploring what our customers want from portable.

Those are the choice words PlayStation boss John Kodera opted to use in an interview with Bloomberg, a far cry from the limited appeal viewpoint that his predecessor Andrew House shared in regards to portable gaming, though Kodera finished off by stating the time wasn't right to discuss "specific hardware plans."

It's certainly a long shot, having a games console more powerful than the PS4 but with portable capabilities (at least at a respectable price point), but as was the case last gen, it would appear that Nintendo's ideas are just too good to ignore.
