PlayStation Classic: 10 Best Games NOT Included

2. Gran Turismo

While Tomb Raider II was the U.K.’s second biggest seller on the PlayStation, Gran Turismo was the system’s biggest seller around the world. The racing simulator was easily the best driving game on the PlayStation and many would say it’s still the best ever put out there.

Obviously the new Forza Horizon offers both better graphics and much more depth. But when you consider the limitations of the era, it’s easy to see why some still hold the first Gran Turismo above all others.

Burgeoning with 140 cars and 11 tracks (or 22 of you count reversed versions), Gran Turismo’s roster was deepened further by the organic unlockable system. In order to obtain the best cars, you had to win enough events at your current level to unlock access to the license level above. Then you were left between buying the first car available in that class for short term gain, or sticking with what you had until you’d earned enough to purchase something top of the range.

Ridge Racer Type 4 is the closest the Classic gets to this. With 321 cars there’s actually even more choice, but for hands on the wheel realism, it doesn’t come close to GT.
