PlayStation Showcase: 10 Games We Could See

Announced via a State of Play event last year, Rise of the Rōnin is the next PlayStation exclusive title from the talented Team Ninja, with some assistance from Sony’s own XDev Studio.

As is to be expected given the studio's history and their namesake, this is another ninja/samurai game, this time in the RPG genre with custom character creation and a branching narrative depending on the player's choices. This title aims to home in on a much more grounded and historical basis compared to their previous, more fantastical entries like the Nioh duo-logy. Set in the late 19th century during Bakumatsu and the Boshin War, the game will depict one of the darkest eras of Japan’s history along with a combat system that includes authentic weaponry used during the period.

The game promises another solid mark on Team Ninja's record, with studio president Fumihiko Yasuda claiming Rise of the Rōnin to be the "most ambitious project they have developed."

Being a PlayStation 5 exclusive due to drop next year, it's perfectly safe to assume a new trailer will be shown, perhaps somewhere in the middle of this showcase, giving us a further look at gameplay and potentially a release date. They would also do well to use an opportunity such as this to showcase the more unique tone, setting, and gameplay style this team is known for, to really set it apart from another certain PlayStation exclusive samurai game.
