Pokémon: 5 Reasons You Need To Take The Nuzlocke Challenge
2. You Can Actually Lose
No matter how difficult a Pokémon battle, no how matter how much a trainer struggles against a gym leader, and no matter how many times you defeat the Elite Four only to lose to the champion, you will always be able to go back and try again, actually being stronger for losing.
This essentially means that unless you give up of your own accord, there is no real way for the player to lose in a game of Pokémon. There is something about this that makes it less of a game, if there is a guaranteed win.
The Nuzlocke Challenge adds a dreaded GAME OVER. Every time a Pokémon faints it has to be released, and with the limited amount of capture opportunities, there is a real possibility of a trainer running out of Pokémon and ending the game.
This makes the Elite Four challenge in particular even more difficult. Defeating five of the strongest trainers in the game in a row is tough, but having to do it on the first attempt is even tougher. This makes losing the game and being unable to continue a real possibility.
