Ranking All Of Microsoft's First-Party Studios Worst To Best
7. InXile Entertainment
Notable Games: Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides Of Numenera, Bard's Tale IV
In Development: Wasteland 3
A brand new member of Microsoft’s first-party studios, InXile features several key members formerly of the troubled Interplay Entertainment.
The company launched in 2004, finding its feet with low-key money jobs (Line Rider 2, Super Stacker) and failed attempts at mainstream success (Bard's Tale's reboot and Hunted: The Demon's Forge). Things picked up in 2014 though, when the company reached out to Kickstarter and basked in ridiculously successful campaigns for Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides Of Numenera.
It etched out a specific niche for the studio; they returned to a distinct style of old-school RPGs with the added value of them being made by several veterans from that era. It brought back the rich and complex lore and mechanics but also kept the same action and graphics of that period - it was a warts-and-all type experience.
For a studio that has always seemed like they were living hand-to-foot, this new acquisition puts them in a very interesting position. Imagine what they could do with a full-fledged RPG funded by a Triple-A budget?
