Ranking Every Boss Battle In Spyro: Reignited Trilogy
9. Metalhead
It might seem harsh to have four of Spyro The Dragon’s six bosses in the bottom five, but the games really didn’t get to grips with what a boss battle needed to be until the sequels. Despite Beast Makers itself being a fairly so-so realm, Metalhead is the best thing about it.
The battle consists of destroying electricity pylons to weaken Metalhead, then following him as he crashes through the wall and doing it again. It’s at least more inventive than Jacques and Blowhard, but it’s an inventiveness that feels unnecessary when the arena style fights are so great in the follow ups.
While Jacques’ design is slightly more in keeping with his realm’s theme, Metalhead scores points because he elevates Beast Makers. Tree Tops is a good level, but everything else feels a little average. With Metalhead though, there’s a few hidden alcoves that ask you to explore the map every which way and probably comes the closest to the deliberately dreary feel of Beast Makers.
Adding a little bit more of a challenge or puzzle with the electricity or some extra combat, and Metalhead could’ve climbed higher.
