Ranking Every Boss Battle In Spyro: Reignited Trilogy

8. Crush

Crush offers a decent introduction to the new, arena style battles of Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage. But much like how Buzz is the first and the worst in the third game, Crush is bested by the other bosses of the sequel.

It’s a fairly simple battle, but that’s at least expected given how early he’s encountered. The dungeon you face him in is very similar to Gulp, but Crush has a much less varied arsenal and Spyro gets fewer attacks. In a way, it can almost be viewed as training for Gulp.

Crush’s methods for attacking you are fairly similar to N. Tropy’s in Crash Bandicoot: Warped, which launched the year before Spyro 2 came out. While he’s armed with a club, you mainly spend your time dodging the energy beams he fires at you by slamming down buttons. There’s no platforming sections to keep you on your toes like N. Tropy though, so it’s all a little rinse and repeat.

They try to give both Crush and Gulp narrative; much more than the bosses get in the original game. But with the sequel’s more character based focus, Crush’s role as a silent dimwit just sees him fade further into the background.
