Ranking Every Legend Of Zelda Game From Worst To Best

4. A Link To The Past

Zelda Best Feature
Nintendo

Arguably the best game of its generation, a case could easily be made for A Link to the Past as not just the finest Zelda game ever, but the finest game of all time. That it has placed just beyond the podium speaks volumes of the immense quality of the series.

Just as Super Mario World and Super Metroid transplanted embryonic ideas from the NES and polished them to perfection for the 16-bit era, A Link to the Past likewise did the same for Zelda. The basic template is essentially the same as the 8-bit original, but every aspect is refined, purified, to craft the immaculate example of what a Link adventure should be.

The graphics, the dungeons, the music, the bit where you turn into a rabbit, the Dark World, the iconic introduction of the Master Sword: Link to the Past is virtuosic in every regard. Yet three more games managed to be, illogically, even more 'the best'.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
