Ranking Every Legend Of Zelda Game From Worst To Best

5. Link Between Worlds

Zelda Best Feature
Nintendo

How do you make a sequel to one of the most legendary games of all time? This is how.

It's no overstatement to say that Link Between Worlds is the best Zelda game since Majora's Mask. A follow up to seminal SNES classic A Link to the Past, it feels like exactly that. The title would really be more befitting the sequel.

Also, it quite literally feels like A Link to the Past, which is as fine a compliment as you can pay a game. Despite superficially being a soft-reset of the third Zelda quest, Link Between Worlds is deceptively original in execution, introducing an item rental system and a non-linear latter act which puts a whole new spin on the usual progression. It has all the goodness of a bottle of fresh Lon Lon Milk, but even creamier. Yum.

Whilst the pull of nostalgia can't be denied as a key factor in Link Between World's brilliance - hearing that Dark World theme anew is borderline orgasmic - there's as much invention here than in any Zelda game since LTTP. It also has tiny collectible octopuses. Who can say say no a multitude of miniature molluscs?

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
