Ranking Every Modern Need For Speed From Worst To Best
1. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) is the reboot of the 1998 game of the same name. The title is the first game in the series made by famed Burnout developers Criterion Games and marks a return to Need for Speed's roots.
What makes the game work is its simplicity. While contemporary racers at the time relied on open worlds, customization, or realism, Hot Pursuit is a straightforward racer complete with arcade handling and raw thrills. Players are put on either side of the law with racers escaping the police while cop cars use specialized gadgets to capture their targets. Seacrest Country features excellent track design with numerous shortcuts littered across the map. Every race is well throughout while the game features different event types that add variety.
Finally, Hot Pursuit 2010 introduced the Autolog feature which is an online function that connects friends with each other. Players could compete in head-to-head races as well as compare scores from their playthroughs.
All in all, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) isn't just the best modern NFS game but is one of the best racing games ever. It's not a surprise that the game was remastered for modern platforms in 2020.
