Ranking Summer 2016's Video Games From Worst To Best

5. No Man's Sky

Seems like you can't mention No Man's Sky without a horde of people springing out the ether yelling "BUT WHERE'S THE MULTIPLAYER?!" - and that's totally fine, the game definitely doesn't live up to what was touted in the run-up to release. But, it IS still an incredible experience - one that gives off the purest sensation of exploration this side of something like Skyrim, on an unprecedented scale that will most likely never be matched or seen again.

How that manifests in-game comes in the form of resource management - and lots of it. You'll need to venture to as many corners of the procedurally-generated cosmos as possible to upgrade your suit, ship and weapon, to go even deeper.

Think of the whole thing as a quirky indie project given the big budget exposure of Sony, because that sensation of being the only soul in an entire galaxy, spending hours on a planet only to leave and see it disappear as a spec in your rear-view mirror - that is a feeling no other form of entertainment will ever give.

It's for that reason that I've always thought Hello Games' mathematical masterwork can rise above the negativity - it really does have a way of making you question life, our apparent 'need' to explore, and humanity's place in the galaxy overall.
