Ranking What Was REALLY The Best Video Game Every Year 1990-2021

At the time we fell back on the likes of Shadow of Mordor or Dragon Age: Inquisition for Game of the Year. Hell my personal take is the spectacular Shovel Knight, still a supremely charming and recommendable 2D platformer.

Across such a strangely empty year though, one experience clearly won out overall: P.T.

Hideo Kojima's literal "playable teaser" for a Silent Hill reboot that would then be cancelled, P.T. packs a notably unsettling atmosphere, great jump-scares and slow drip-feeds of what's really going on, as you explore one section of a corridor over and over.

Whether it "counts" as a full game is irrelevant - looking back now, its legacy is writ large.
