2. The Heroes Part 2: Arthur Morgan
Arthur Morgan is presented as a man who, at first, would do anything to maintain his gang's way of life.
Shown to be both courageous and often callous, our lovable black lunged is shown to be a much more human character to John's Hollywood counterpart. As previously mentioned, John is the movie action hero in Red Dead Redemption while RDR2 grounds its characters in reality. Arthur makes genuine decisions and not all of them are the right ones. He goes from a ruthless outlaw to a caring individual thanks to some very harsh life lessons.
The moment Arthur is hit with the news that he is terminally ill, his entire outlook on life shifts. This revelation sets Mr. Morgan on a true path towards redemption, an opportunity that John is sadly never presented with.
Arthur understands that it is too late for him and attempts to lead those he cares about and has wronged towards a better future, thus achieving true redemption. John, on the other hand, chooses to remain ignorant that his time is coming to an end despite Dutch's warnings.
Overall, Arthur is a much more relatable protagonist that demonstrates realistic character growth throughout the story.
