Red Dead Redemption 1 Or 2 - Which Is Better?
3. The Heroes Part 1: John Marston
The final character flaw is with John Marston.
RDR2 makes Marston out to be selfish, cowardly, and an outright foolish man. By the end of the game, it is astounding how many wrong and idiotic decisions John made. Not only does John go under an alias using the name of the well-established agent that hunted him down for years but he also decides to live just outside of the town that wants him dead.
These decisions make it feel as though he somehow deserved his fate as any smarter man would have been on the next boat to Tahiti.
In the first game, John is depicted as a man who would do anything for his family by any means. John hunted down his old friends just to be with his wife and child again and the John we see in RDR2 would not have done the same.
Character decisions aside, RDR2 does feature a wider array of interesting and diverse cast members, particularly within the gang. If the epilogue hadn't have happened, the second game would have undoubtedly come out on top. Instead, the strange choices made throughout the climax detract from the story's overall quality.
