Red Dead Redemption 2: 10 Iconic Western Characters You Must Create

There aren’t too many iconic women in the western genre, but Mattie Ross is probably the best of them. The leading character from True Grit is only a child, but if you’re prepared to age her up, you can get a fairly good likeness in game.

Ross is the lead character in Charles Portis’ classic novel, played on screen by Kim Darby in 1969, and more recently as Hailee Steinfeld’s breakout role in 2010. It’s Steinfeld’s version which Red Dead Online offers a template for, if you’re willing to put in the work.

Unfortunately, the absence of an eyepatch means Rooster Cogburn’s look is out, however. La Boeuf’s lack of a distinctive costume means he’s out too.

With Ross though, you can make it work. Brown ponytails for the hair, black stride hat and black duster coat with dark jeans matches what she wears for most of the movie, although she typically wears hers buttoned up, not open as it is in Red Dead Online.

Alternatively, a cream version of the Kimberley outfit from the pre-set selection passes for Mattie Ross before her father was murdered and she got her taste for revenge.
