Resident Evil 6: 10 Reasons It’s The Death of the Franchise

6. Disenfranchisement

I used to absolutely adore the Resident Evil franchise, back in the day, when all it was was a handful of original PSX games. Then that original Resi move came out and it did so well financially ($102m earned vs. a £33m budget), despite being so sh*t. In my honest opinion, that moment was the first nail in the Resident Evil coffin. Many of us old school Resi gamers are just disenfranchised with the series now, after the slew of Resident Evil movies that were each more depressing and shallow than the last, the host of awful peripheral titles (like the shudder inducingly terrible Operation Raccoon City for example). We€™ve just been burned too many times by the franchise, but every time we€™ve gone back like a wife that won€™t leave her abusive spouse. Maybe many of us will return for Resi 5, maybe we€™ll even buy the next forced out, unnecessary title in the run, but I can promise you this, there€™s only so much we can take before we finally pack our bags and leave for good.
