5. Capcom Seem to Be Listening to Their Fan Base and Potential Customers
Capcom is one of the oldest game publishers since in existence but much like their contemporaries (EA and Activision) have fallen into the traps of current generation gaming. One could argue that it is the responsibility of the publishers to maximise profits but Capcom have faced wide criticism from the gaming community for their questionable marketing strategies. One of the biggest criticisms Capcom has faced is against their policy of on-disk Downloadable Content. We should all be used to DLC by now, but there is increasing outrage against Capcom as more and more of their games seem to be shipped to shops with on-disk DLC that the consumer has to pay more money to unlock. The damage of this marketing practice is easy to find on the internet just compare the Critic Score with the User Score on Metacritic for Street Fighter X Tekken. Resident Evil 5 was one of the first games to have a fair chuck of downloadable content already on the disk and even back then in 2009 Capcom were criticised. It seems that they are finally listening to fans as Resident Evil 6 has been confirmed to have very little on-disk downloadable content compared with previous Capcom games. It isnt perfect as the upcoming DLC probably would have been included with the original purchase a few years ago, but at least Capcom seem to be trying to tone down with their aggressive marketing strategies. Finally, the fact that Resident Evil 6 is reported to be roughly twice as long as its predecessor should lessen the blow for potential consumers. Capcom have also been making tweaks to the game-play due to the negative reactions that came from the demo version that was shipped with Dragons Dogma, so at least they seem to be listening...kind of.
