Resident Evil 7 Reviews: 10 Early Reactions You Need To Know

3. ...But It's Much More Forgiving Than Most RE Games

Resident Evil 7
Capcom
"To a series veteran in particular Resident Evil 7 is actually quite easy, and we strongly advise not bothering with the Easy mode." - Metro
"I always knew what I needed to do next...Your objectives are made extremely clear thanks to story direction, loading screen recaps when you load a save or die, and the generally simple nature of your objectives to begin with. Sometimes it’s almost too obvious, which removes some of the confusion, tension, and horror that comes with trying to navigate a huge secrets-filled house. The setting’s only real failing is its puzzles, which were disappointingly rare and far too simple." - IGN
"Thankfully, the game's pretty generous when you die, respawning you nearby with all your ammo and healing items intact. You're left terrified and upset, but at least you don't lose much time." - Gamespot

Again, the hardcore set will probably be divided on this, while more casual players will welcome it: RE7 is one of the easiest (if not the easiest) games in the series, due to well-signposted objectives (rather than the guesswork of earlier titles) and generous checkpoints.

This is of course fantastic for those of us with limited time in our busy lives who also loathe repetition, while more traditional players may find that this "casualises" or streamlines the experience too much from the series' earlier days. The jury's out on this one.
