Resident Evil 8 Village: Story & Ending Explained

The Relationship Between The Village And Umbrella

Now it is no secret that Umbrella has at least the smallest of influence on things that occurred within the regions of the Village. The company logo is everywhere and treated as a sacred symbol. It is eventually revealed that Mother Miranda and Ozwell E. Spencer once worked with each other, with Spencer being somewhat of a student of Miranda's.

With that revelation, it seems that this very Village and the influences of Miranda were the nuclei of what would eventually one day become the Umbrella Corporation. On finding one last letter between Spencer and Miranda, it seems as if their ideals differed and Spencer didn't waste any time in leaving the Village. This does make sense, as he was but a mortal man and Miranda was pretty much immortal.

In the letter, Spencer also details his discovery of the Progenitor Virus in Africa, which was said to have happened around the late 1960s; meaning that the two go way back, but so far seemingly never spoke again. Miranda still kept that letter and photos of their early expeditions around, so maybe there was something more there than just a student-teacher relationship.

Either way, Spencer split off because of his selfish desires to change the world with Umbrella, whilst Miranda just wanted her daughter back at the time and by any means.
