Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Is Set In Batman: Arkham Universe

The studio's latest is a co-op supervillain game with third-person-shooter elements.

Following the announcement of Warner Bros. Montreal's Gotham Knights game, Rocksteady studios have also fully revealed their next project - a co-op, RPG title with third-person-shooter elements called Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

The full panel at Saturday's DC Fandome didn't reveal any gameplay. Instead, the studio showed off a four-minute-long CGI trailer that introduced fans to the game's story.

The trailer itself depicts four members of the Suicide Squad as they laze around during an invasion of Metropolis masterminded by Braniac, with the big bombshell moment obviously being that Superman (perhaps being mind-controlled by Braniac?) is Task Force X's main target.

Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and King Shark are the four main characters, and the dialogue itself is really sharp. It was great to see them all trading barbs and banter (Captain Boomerang being a particular highlight), and while no substitute for actual gameplay, the trailer does provide us with a decent impression of how the title may play.

All characters are outfitted with firearms and dart across Metropolis' rooftops pretty effortlessly, with the emphasis obviously being on co-op. Director Sefton Hill confirmed in the full panel reveal that the game will support up to four players online and can be played entirely alone. I'm not too sure about EVERY character being given a gun (King Shark has those big pointy teeth for a reason!), and I'm a little tired of evil Superman stories, but it's another DC game from Rocksteady, so there's clear cause to be excited anyway.

Perhaps the most surprising part of the Suicide Squad reveal was that the game is confirmed to take place in the Arkhamverse, especially after the Gotham Knights announcement confirmed the game would be set in an entirely different continuity, and it leaves fans with a TON of questions... like, where's Batman? And is it set before or after Arkham Knight? You know, that sort of thing.

On the whole, both Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad signal a clear change in direction from WB Games, with multiplayer clearly being prioritised. It remains to be seen how fans will respond, but at the very least it's great to see both studios back in the spotlight.
